School Uniform

We want children to feel proud to attend Dent CE Primary School and our school uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of our school.

We believe that wearing a school uniform plays an important part in:

• Ensuring that children are dressed appropriately for school activities

• Contributing to a feeling of pride amongst the children in school

• Looking smart and gives a sense of belonging

• Eliminating social problems caused by latest fashions and trends

• Making children feel equal to peers in terms of appearance

• Improving behaviour through creating a working environment with improved concentration and discipline

• Supporting children’s well-being (promoting pride, self-confidence, and belonging along with reducing the stress of deciding what to wear).

All pupils at Dent CE Primary School are expected to wear standard school uniform. The full School Uniform Policy can be found on our Key Policies page.

Our school’s uniform

All children are to wear:

• White or light blue polo shirt

• Grey or black trousers (no jeans), shorts, skirt or pinafore dress or a blue and white gingham summer dress

• Blue jumper, hoodie, cardigan or fleece that features the school logo. A plain blue cardigan or jumper can also be worn, however when children are representing the school on out-of-school events and trips, a top with the school logo must be worn

• Black school shoes (no boots, heels, sandals or flip flops).

Hair that is long enough to be tied up, must be tied up for school.

If a child has their ears pierced, they are to wear studded earrings (no hoops) for school and they must be removed for PE including swimming - school staff are not permitted to remove earrings.

Jewellery including necklaces, bracelets, rings etc are not permitted to be worn in school. Children are permitted to wear a watch. Watches that have the capability to connect to the internet (ie Smart Watches) are not permitted.

For PE, children are to wear:

• White or light blue t-shirt

• Black shorts or skorts

• Black jogging bottoms or black leggings that do not have a branded logo or pattern on them

• Black jogging jumper or hoodie that do not have a branded logo or pattern on them

• Trainers or plimsoles

• In KS2 all children will need a mouth guard.

When attending swimming, ALL children are to wear a swimming cap. Boys are to wear fitted swimming trunks and girls wear a swimming costume with leggings if required.

Branded school uniform, with a Dent CE Primary School logo can be ordered from the school office. Parents / carers may also purchase unbranded uniform from any supermarket or supplier.

Parents / carers are expected to make sure their child has the correct uniform and PE kit, and that every item is:

• Clean

• Clearly labelled with the child’s name

• In good condition.

Parents / carers are also expected to contact the Headteacher if they want to request an amendment to the uniform policy in relation to:

• Their child’s protected characteristics

• Special educational / sensory needs

• The cost of the uniform.
